Backstreet Café

26 Aug

I hold Saturday mornings close to my heart. Rolling out of bed and picking a new Houston brunch spot is a regular occurrence. Fortunately, I have great friends who are always on board for another brunch adventure. Today I write about one my favorites: Backstreet Café.

Backstreet offers a great dining experience any time of day, but brunch is their best contribution. From the morning cocktails to the warm Orange Chocolate Brioche Rolls, you can’t go wrong at Backstreet. You will love it!

{You must try this.}

Tucked away in a ’30s-era house, Backstreet Café has a casual and cozy indoor atmosphere. The front and back patios are perfect on a cool day. The Houston summer heat made the inside seating option a no-brainer, but we look forward to eating outside when the weather is nice. Regardless of the time of year, Backstreet provides a laid-back locale and some really, really great food.

Brunch began with a plate of homemade muffins for the table. We sipped delicious Nutella iced coffee while deciding what to order. The girls and I trusted our server’s recommendations and split three brunch entrees. The service was quick and our mid-day meal was divine.

I highly recommend the Brioche French Toast. It melts in your mouth and will satisfy your morning sweet tooth. I’m not typically a french toast connoisseur, but it’s hard to deny the perfect combination of soft, egg-y toast smothered in sweet syrup and cool berries.  The Smoked Chicken Hash and Backstreet Benedict are also top-notch. Both entrees are excellent savory choices that made us pause and smile with every bite. The drama is real, y’all. There was more than enough food on each plate, so I recommend splitting like we did.

Saturday and Sunday brunch is served from 10 am to 3 pm. I prefer dining at Backstreet with a small group, though the restaurant accommodates all parties. There is a bar inside if you simply need a drink or quick bite to eat. Plus, there is a great dining room upstairs for larger events.

Next time you need a mimosa and a healthy serving of brunch, make it Backstreet. You won’t regret it.

    It’s definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Houston – brunch, lunch or dinner. Their gazpacho is heavenly, as is their Heirloom Tomato Salad. Love these pictures!
